October 22nd will see the annual Beatrice Warde Memorial Lecture, hosted by Simon Loxley. In preparation, we have found an interview from 1959 with the lady herself. The interviewer brings up such subjects as why Beatrice chose a French, male pen name, the purpose of her visit to Australia and her views on the standard of Australian printing.
To accompany this year’s lecture, St Bride Library shop has begun to stock copies of ‘Printer’s Devil: The Life and Work of Frederic Warde’, about Warde’s husband, whose short life saw him produce the typeface ‘Arrighi’ with Stanley Morison. You can purchase a copy here.
